Breast reduction involves removing excess skin and underlying breast tissue in order to reduce its size and reshapes the contour. Women wanting breast reduction have breasts that are disproportionately large and sagging. Reasons why women choose to undergo this procedure are to reduce certain medical problems associated with having excessively large breasts such as back, neck or shoulder pain. Other medical problems can include bra-strap indentations, breathing difficulty, backache, inability to wear certain clothing and other forms of physical discomfort related to having excessively large breasts. During the procedure, excess breast tissue and skin is removed. The areola may be reduced and repositioned also. What results from breast reduction surgery are breasts that are smaller, firmer and more proportional to the rest of the body.
Breast reduction can be done to help alleviate certain medical conditions, but it can also be done for aesthetic reasons. This includes balancing a difference in breast size as well as help women who are self-conscious about their appearance. Most women that undergo breast reduction surgery find that their body looks better proportioned, their clothes fit better, and they experience a boost in their self-confidence.
Breast reduction results emerge as the swelling goes down. Entire recovery and final results is 6 weeks to 3 months.
If you desire more detailed information to help you make a well-informed decision about undergoing surgery, then please consult with your cosmetic surgeon.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Wim Danau will discuss with you the details of the surgery, including all aspects of the procedure and any pre-operative instructions you will need. Contact the offices of Dr Wim Danau, for more information on breast reduction.
A reduction mammaplasty procedure is performed by cosmetic surgeon Dr. Wim Danau while the patient is under general anaesthesia, and can be completed on an out-patient basis, if the patient so desires. The procedure begins with an incision made around the areola, down to the crease of the breast, then horizontally, forming an anchor shape. Dr. Wim Danau then removes excess fat, skin, and tissue from the breasts, and he repositions the nipples to a higher location. The procedure typically takes about three to four hours to complete.
There is a possibility that patients will lose feeling in the nipples following the procedure. Dr. Danau will discuss all risks of the procedure with you thoroughly before the operation.
Some discomfort and swelling should be expected during recovery from a breast reduction procedure. However, they should dissipate as the breasts heal. Scarring from the procedure is inevitable, but Dr. Wim Danau will work to minimize the appearance of scars and make them as discreet as possible. Patients who are breastfeeding or are planning to breast feed in the future should discuss this with Dr. Danau before considering the procedure.
