A thigh lift, or thighplasty, is a surgical procedure that reshapes the thighs by removing excess skin, fat, and tissue, to tighten and refine the upper legs allowing for more attractive lower body contours. This procedure will assist in removing sagging skin on the inner thighs, overall tightening the overall shape of the thighs. Whether from natural aging or weight loss, a thigh lift can help clothes fit better and reduce irritation of the loose skin.
You may be a thigh lift candidate if you are healthy and emotionally stable but feel physically and psychologically uncomfortable due to excess, saggy skin and fat on your thighs. Unfortunately, exercise and diet can do little to help improve the look of your thighs, as the excess skin can be removed only surgically.
Dr. Wim Danau performs thigh lift as an outpatient procedure with the patient under general anesthesia. A thigh lift takes approximately two hours.
There are several techniques available. Your surgeon will work with you to customize the thigh lift procedure that fits your needs to achieve more youthful, sculpted legs.
He starts by making small incisions in the area of the thighs and removing excess fat and tissue. He then contours the thighs to create a more toned and tight appearance. For patients who are looking to eliminate flabby, sagging skin on the thighs, a thigh lift is an excellent plastic surgery option.
The Medial Thigh Lift, or inner thigh lift, aims to remove any excess skin or “sagging” skin from the inner thigh, resulting in smoother skin tightening and enhanced skin elasticity. The length of the incision varies from confined to the groin crease or down the inner leg towards the knee if a larger amount of skin and fat is necessary to be removed.
Liposuction may be utilized with the thigh lift to give greater cosmetic results specific to the patient. Liposuction will assist in removing excess fatty tissue or the overall bulk of the thighs and works together with a thigh lift to enhance optimal contouring outcomes.
Following thigh lift, the patient will be provided with a compression garment for two to four weeks to help tighten the skin and prevent swelling. It is not unusual to have some drainage from your incisions for the first couple of days. Some bruising, swelling and soreness in the treatment area are to be expected, but pain can be managed with medications prescribed by Dr. Danau. In addition, Dr. Danau will provide the patient with detailed postoperative instructions to ensure a smooth healing process, including how to change dressings and when it is acceptable to resume showering. Any pain resulting from the surgery should begin to subside after a few days.
Walking during the first 48 hours is encouraged. Climbing stairs, squatting and aerobic activities should be avoided for several days. Most patients have a “tight” and swollen feeling in the thighs. This gradually goes away. Most of the swelling is gone by six weeks time. Individuals with a “desk job” may return to work after one week. Positions that require lifting more than 25 pounds, prolonged periods of standing, walking, or heavy lifting should not be resumed for three to six weeks. The scars will begin to fade two to three months after surgery and will have diminished considerably in one to two years, though they will not disappear completely.
Dr. Danau is an experienced plastic surgeon with an impressive track record of safe, successful surgeries. However, all surgeries pose risks. The risks of thigh lift include:
To minimize these and other risks, be sure to study all pre- and postoperative instructions provided by Dr. Danau and his staff. By fully informing yourself and taking all necessary precautions, you can ensure that your thigh lift procedure will result in an attractive, more youthful thigh appearance.
The thigh lift procedure can:
Dr. Wim Danau sometimes recommends that his thigh lift patients combine this treatment with other body contouring procedures to achieve the best possible results. For example, patients who have a significant amount of excess skin on their thighs, buttocks and lower abdomen might benefit from lower body lift. Similarly, patients who have lost more than 100 pounds of excess weight might wish to undergo the comprehensive post-weight loss body contouring treatment, which can include liposuction and tummy tuck. Yet another option is to undergo thigh lift in conjunction with an arm lift to achieve a toned, youthful overall physique.
